What Do We Love About Cedar Lake?
We’re so glad you asked.
We've made a list of what matters most
Cedar Lake Community Heart & Soul is a local initiative powered by residents of Cedar Lake, funded locally by a grant from the Legacy Foundation – Lake County’s Community Foundation. We are working together to strengthen Cedar Lake by actively engaging the entire population in identifying what we love most about the community, what future we want for it, and how to achieve it.
Cedar Lake Community Heart & Soul follows Community Heart & Soul, a four-phase, step-by-step process that brings residents together to identify and honor the unique character of their town and the emotional connection of the people who live there.
The Cedar Lake project is being coordinated by Cedar Lake Historical Association’s The Museum at Lassen’s Resort in partnership with the Town of Cedar Lake. Join us as we embark on an exciting journey to engage all who live, work, and play in Cedar Lake.
What are Heart & Soul Statements?
Heart & Soul Statements represent what matters most to a community. They are the culmination of a community’s gathering, listening, and sharing of stories. These statements are developed from the hard work that your community invested in involving everyone.
Community statements are based on the survey of “what matters most” and then the “themes” our community identified from the data in that category.
There are three parts to a Heart & Soul Statement:
- a verb, or an action word,
- an attribute, or what it is that’s important, and
- why it’s important to residents.
Recreational Opportunities
“We value the uniqueness of living in a community like no other in our region. It feels like being on vacation because of the atmosphere created by the activities around the lake, the opportunities for contact with nature, and the chance to enjoy them with others.”
Public Experiences
“We enjoy creating lasting memories and cherished moments, and value the opportunity to play and celebrate at the variety of accessible, low or no cost experiences in our community such as Summerfest, farmer’s market, concerts, sports leagues, parades and museum events.”
Our Shared History
“We value preserving our town’s unique identity as a great source of Cedar Lake pride and the culture presented at our museum because our shared history unites us, strengthens connections across the entire community, and bridges neighborhoods, school districts, and the many parts of our town.”
Community Connectedness
“The people of Cedar Lake value the family-friendly connectedness of the community. Our citizens put down roots, make memories, volunteer together, and are committed to raising their families here for many generations.“
Enthusiastic Organizations
“We appreciate and support our schools, churches, nonprofits, and locally-owned businesses because of the quality, variety, and dedication they bring to the community.“
Small Town Living
“We take pride in living in a community with a small-town feel as we grow to welcome new families. We are peacefully set apart but still in close proximity to larger cities and amenities, with affordable housing and a safe environment that we call home.“
